The Aging Workforce

More people are going to do less, so less people are going to do more

The aging workforce in Europe is causing companies, governments and individuals to think about the far future. In 2015 (approximately) there will be a huge group of seniors taking their retirement, which will cause a gab between the people leaving the workforce and the youngsters entering the workforce. Welfare diminution gives governments and economists sleepless nights. Furthermore the decrease in fertility (less babies are being born) and the increase in life expectancy (people are getting older) will cause major demographical shifts. Currently, the problem of the aging workforce is still enacted on political level. Companies are not yet directly concerned (exceptions there), but nevertheless loaded with questions. What kind of HR policies to adapt? Shall we keep our seniors, or do we need to form our younger workers? How do we motivate our seniors again, and how do we ensure our welfare level (company and state)? All these questions have been collected and have been transformed into a research. Currently I am working together with a team of researchers to investigate the situation regarding the aging workforce in France and the Netherlands. Persons interested in the aging workforce can take a look or contact me by email.  Although not all of us are seniors yet, somehow we will be affected by the aging workforce.
